The Management Masterclass
Management Today
Headline Business Plus, £10.99
Now, obviously, MT isn't usually one to blow its own trumpet, but we fail to see a reason why we wouldn't include this publishing triumph. Drawing on a wealth of MT expertise, and with a contribution by ex-Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy, it's packed with plenty of excellent management tips. Don't believe us? Ask Robert Peston: he said it's 'sensible ... comprehensible ... and even occasionally witty' - Best of its kind ***
Warren Buffett's Management Secrets
Mary Buffett and David Clark
Simon & Schuster, £8.99
Billionaire Warren Buffett, once the world's richest man, should know a thing or two about management. As Buffett's former daughter-in-law, Mary (author of titles such as Buffettology and The Tao of Warren Buffett - there's a theme) has plenty of insights. Hence this fascinating look at what makes the Sage of Omaha wiser than your average billionaire, all presented in short, sharp, digestible pieces. Lovely. Best of its kind ***
How to Manage (third edition)
Jo Owen
Prentice Hall, £12.99
Simplicity is the name of the game here: simple title, simple cover, bills itself as (simply) 'the ultimate how-to of management'. To be fair, it is probably correct: covering everything from managing budgets to how to build up your PQ (political quotient. Obviously) in simple, straightforward style. Good for reference, but by no means a page-turner. Of minor interest. *
