Boris claims David Cameron did know Magna Carta meaning

The mayor of London has suggested that David Cameron pretended not to know the meaning of 'Magna Carta' in English during his appearance on the David Letterman Late Show.

BoJo added that Cameron had fudged the answer. He said: ‘I think he was only pretending. I think he knew full well what Magna Carta means. It was a brilliant move in order to show his demotic credentials and that he didn’t have Latin bursting out of every orifice.’

With his trademark linguistic flamboyance on LBC 97.3 Radio this morning, he said that his fellow Old Etonian and Oxford alumna had deliberately fluffed a couple of David Letterman’s questions in an attempt to look more down-to-earth.

The mayor then went on to reveal a gap in his own knowledge of British history, naming Bobby Moore as the hat-trick scorer of the 1966 world cup final victory against East Germany. The scorer was, of course, Geoff Hurst.
