Husband and wife team Nick Wheeler and Chrissie Rucker have come through the retail downturn in pretty good shape with their respective retail operations. Ex-fashion journalist Rucker runs the White Company selling towels, sheets and clothes, which made £4.7m profit on £125.6m sales in 2012-13. Her husband Nick Wheeler got the entrepreneurial bug at Eton and he began Charles Tyrwhitt in 1986 while a student at Bristol University. The shirt retailer made made £24.1m profit on £118.6m sales last year.
