eBay reaches 100 million mobile app downloads

Mobile may be Facebook's Achilles heel, but it's eBay's secret weapon. The ecommerce giant reckons that its mobile apps have been downloaded 100 million times since 2008, and 25 million times in the last six months alone.

Over 100 million items have been listed on the auction site from mobile devices, says eBay, which expects to make £10bn from mobile revenues this year alone. That's double last year's figure, when transactions from smartphones and tablets made up less that 0.1% of its $60.3bn 'total merchandise volumes' - or 'turnover', in layman's terms.

And it looks like most of eBay's auction lovers have now taken the mobile plunge. Crunching eBay's data, the number of downloads for eBay's mobile app downloads is only a few mill short of its total number of active users. As of July, eBay reported that 113.2 million users had listed or made purchases on eBay in the past 12 months. Take note, Zuckerberg...
