A haul of jewellery worth £1.1m, a stack of New Order and Joy Division master tapes and a number of weapons (!) have been found in safety deposit boxes down in the basement of Jamie's new restaurant.

The trove was uncovered by his designers and architects while remodelling the old Midland bank into Oliver's latest wheeze: Jamie's Italian. They informed the Bank of England, which despatched officials armed with drills to uncover the contents. Unfortunately for the owners of the gold and jewels, the boxes were not named. It is believed that the safety deposit boxes have been in the basement since 1935.

The full contents have yet to be published, but the value of the stash will doubtless go up and up over the coming weeks. Think of all the truffle oil and Clawson Stilton Gold Jamie could buy with £1m... Alas, he's handed over the whole lot to the Treasury.
