Britain's Most Admired No 6: Berkeley Group, Tony Pidgley

A rise of 15 places means the highest ever standing in Most Admired for Berkeley Group, the 'executive' homebuilder founded by Barnardo's boy Pidgley in 1976.

Berkeley completed 2,201 homes in the year to April and avoided the wholesale asset write-downs that have afflicted rivals. Berkeley also wins the awards for financial soundness, value as a long-term investment and use of corporate assets.
