Senior management not switched on to reputation, says survey

Stat of the day: 3/10. That's the number of senior corporate communicators around the world who thought their senior management did not understand the need for good reputation.
Keeping a company’s public relations on the straight and narrow can be tricky business, especially if one of your employees turns out to have defrauded the pension scheme. But an Ipsos Mori survey found that 29% of corporate communicators think their bosses do not understand the effect that reputation has on the bottom line. Half of them said they found it difficult to demonstrate to bosses the value of reputation management.
The survey also found that the majority (82%) of communicators believed discussions in social media sites could affect reputation, but 40% believed criticism on the sites was taken too seriously.
It’s certainly a difficult time to convince management to keep budgets safe, especially with the worst of the austerity bite yet to come in the UK. But we think it’s surely better to manage reputation to emerge looking pretty when the recession blues finally fade away…
