Those with robust memories will recall a job advertised three years ago for a paradise island caretaker. The role required no formal qualifications except for an interest in swimming, snorkelling, diving and sailing. The successful applicant - who turned out to be a chap named Ben Southall - was paid £70,000 for a six month placement on Hamilton 'paradise' Island, which lies a stone's throw rfom the Great Barrier Reef, and lived rent-free in a three-bedroom villa, complete with pool. Nice work, if you can get it.
Well, move over paradise island. There's a new hot - well, wading temperature - job in town.
First Choice is offering one lucky candidate the chance to spend six months riding water slides and generally have a wet'n'wild time gadding about in the pools at its SplashWorld resorts around the world. The ad bumf reads: 'The successful candidate will get to ride and rate the slides based on the 'biggest splash' and 'adrenaline factor' as part of the role, as well as share their experiences with First Choice holidaymakers via Twitter and Facebook.'
And we're not just talking about an anticlimatic splosh on the Costa Dorado. This slide-tester will travel from Egypt to Ibiza, Turkey to Tenerife, and a host of other sunny destinations. Basic pay stands at £10,000 for a six month contract, plus paid overseas travel expenses. And, at the end of the placement you'll receive a seven-night holiday for two staying at one of the company's all-inclusive resorts. Just what you need, a little more time by the pool after all that hard work...
Downsides? Well, if you're lucky you'll get away with little more than wrinkly fingers. Beware, however, a case of chronic otitis, otherwise known as glue ear...
