Everyone knows that Sky is in rude health financially, but less is known about the people behind the success. At Inspiring Women, Baker will speak about the ways that she helps to empower Sky staff and her plans for the group. She will also talk through the challenges of managing people in such a huge organisation: Sky is responsible for over 120,000 jobs after all.

Baker is a dab hand at the delicate art of people management. Cutting her teeth at blue chips Ford, Schlumberger and Grand Metropolitan, she has also done her time in the fashion industry, with positions at Laura Ashley and later Burberry, where she took on responsibility for HR issues across the fashion group.

In 2007, Baker joined Sky and has been the driving force behind Sky’s staff reward, development and engagement schemes ever since. It has been under her leadership that training days for employees have almost doubled, and it is Baker’s vision that has tipped Sky’s gender balance towards a more level setting; 37% of staff are now female. In addition, employment of staff from ethnic minority is steadily rising, as is the number of jobs held by disabled people.
