The rise in Scotch whisky exports, the equivalent of 569m bottles.

Last Updated: 09 Oct 2013
Consumer confidence may have taken a bit of a knock, but Scotch whisky is by no means on the rocks. According to figures from the Scotch Whisky Association, exports rose by 22% in the first half of the year, with total global shipments of Scotch standing at £1.8bn – the equivalent of 569m bottles.

The USA remains the top export market, with shipments increasing by 14% to hit £268m – but emerging markets are also getting a taste for it. Sales to South America almost doubled, while exports to Brazil alone rose by 56%. Strong stuff, as they say in the business.
