Techknow - The people and products shaping your future - Smart tools - The sharp internet viewcam What does it do?
It is the first digital video recorder to use the 'MPEG-4 compression standard'. This means that it vastly reduces the size of moving picture files, allowing them to be sent either as e-mail attachments or over the internet with relative ease. The memory cards it uses can store up to 60 minutes of video (with sound) which can then easily be transferred to a PC. For businesses this means almost instant transmission of video files as well as a simple way to add video to their web sites. The camera can also take digital stills.
What's the competition?
Most major electronics companies offer digital cameras of some description but this is the first that will be able to pack so much video into so few megabytes.
When can I get it?
It will be widely available from early September, priced around £550.
