Shocking though it may seem at the dawn of the third millennium, some people still actually use faxes - those troublesome machines that spew out pieces of paper that you have to physically collect from your office.

Well now you don't have to. Sign up on the eFax site (www.eFax.com) and they'll give you a new fax number quicker than you can say 'paperless office'.

Any faxes sent to this number are then automatically converted into image files and dispatched to your e-mail address. What this also means is that, in theory, you can log in and collect them wherever in the world you might be.

For the more adventurous the site also offers exotic options such as voicemail and so on, for which you will be charged. But the basic service, which is funded by showing users small adverts when they open their faxes, doesn't cost a penny.
