What do the Cambridgeshire Constabulary, a classifieds ads website and Tesco Bank have in common? And it's got nothing to do with cybercrime. Well, maybe a little in the police's case.

All three have ended up on the shortlists for Management Today's inaugural Analytics in Action Awards – in association with Accenture.

From fighting fires and crime to tax credits and billboard campaigns, big data is radically altering the ways we do our work and business, according to the shortlisted candidates.

The Awards recognise and reward organisations of every size and sector that have most successfully placed analytics at the heart of their operations and are turning their data driven insights into positive action.

Organisations are collecting more data than ever but these 1s and 0s are useless if you don't know what they mean. The Awards are about using technologies to analyse and find insights that change business practice and solve important problems.
