Analytics in Action awards: the winners

MT and Accenture celebrate award winners from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service to British Airways.

Mobile phone company O2-Telefonica, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service and customer insight firm Transactis were announced this morning as winners of the inaugural Analytics in Action awards, a new annual competition run by MT in association with Accenture to recognise and reward organisations using data to make a difference.

Judges, who included analytics experts from BA, Visa and Accenture, awarded top prize in the enterprise category to O2-Telefonica for developing a marketing decision tool that delivers the "next best" offers for its customers.

Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service scooped the not-for-proft category award for using geo-demographic data and a range of open source statistical and analytical tools to make significant financial savings while maintaining an effective emergency response.

And Transactis walked away with the SME category prize for its work with HMRC to identify changes in personal circumstances and relationships so that tax credits are correctly calculated and applied and that fraud and errors are minimised.

‘These awards suggest that a growing number of organisations are now including the scientific side in the mix along with intuition and experience, which collectively make up the art and science of decision-making,’ said Ray Eitel-Porter, managing director of Accenture Analytics.
