ARM robot storms Rubik's Cube record

Engineers from the Cambridge software supremo found time to make a very, very fast robot.

ARM’s engineers clearly have some time on their hands – two of them designed a robot that smashed their own Guinness world record for solving a Rubik’s Cube. The Cubestormer III took very little time to crack the notoriously tricky retro puzzle at The Big Bang fair in Birmingham: 3.253 seconds to be precise, more than two seconds faster than the previous cube crunching.

Dreaming up funky robots powered by their own chips may seem a tad tangential, but it doesn’t seem to have impacted the Cambridge-based software business – it was named the fifth most innovative company in the world by Forbes magazine last year.
