This book is part case study, based on the author's experiences, and part DIY guide to being an 'authentic leader'. Authentic leaders are, apparently, people of the highest integrity with a deep sense of purpose, who are true to their core values. They also manage to make a profit. If this sounds appealing, then this is the book for you. But even sceptics will like the book's balanced tone.

THE AUTHENTIC CAREER; MAGGIE CRADDOCK; NEW WORLD LIBRARY POUNDS 11.99
The author of this book was a successful portfolio manager for a large US investment fund when she decided that she wasn't happy with her career. She's now an executive coach, and this book is her attempt to direct others on to a more fulfilling career path. It's a workbook rather then an easy read, and the reader is expected to answer questions and complete exercises. Good for those who are unsatisfied with their present job and want to change or improve their existing career.

SPIRITUAL CAPITAL; DANAH ZOHAR & IAN MARSHALL; BLOOMSBURY; POUNDS 16.99
Developing out of the trend for authenticity is a parallel interest in spirituality. Here, spiritual capital is taken to mean a framework in which businesses are guided by deeply held values, but manage to make a profit and contribute to the greater good. It's an interesting read, with a good chapter on Spiritual Intelligence, or SQ.
