Name: Ruth Robinson

Company: QXL

Age: 27

Time in job: 18 months

Previous job: Molecular plant geneticist in Australia

What does it involve? I'm trying to create a fun, safe environment where people can buy and sell, where they feel they're part of a community and would rather come to us than other online auction houses. This involves listening to what people have to say and building up rules and moral values.

For example, someone was selling a video that showed footage of real executions on it and some of our members found it upsetting so we cut it out.

How did you get the job? I'd moved from London to Australia but I found research sleepy. I'd read about eBay and I saw a QXL ad in the paper, so I applied.

Best points? The relationships I've built up with members who are now extremely loyal to QXL.

Worst points? Complaints and those people you just can't satisfy. Some of them get very upset.
