How did she make her millions? By selling cookery books (more than 17 million copies in the UK alone) and achieving iconic status as a TV chef in the '80s. She also owned two-thirds of publisher New Crane with her husband, which was sold for £13 million early this year. Norwich City, however, is no money-spinner, having lost £4.6 million on £12.9 million sales in 2002-03.
The secret of her success? Staying power and dependability. She was once described by fellow chef Anthony Worrall Thompson as the 'Volvo of the kitchen'.
