Brainfood: Origins of GDP

According to the World Bank, 36 million Russians live below its poverty line, yet the country has a literacy rate higher than that of the UK. Mobile phone subscribers in Russia total 3.8 per 100 people, compared with 78.3 over here. There are 13.1 hospital beds available for every 1,000 Russians, compared with just 3.9 beds in the UK.
