Britain's Most Admired by sector: Speciality & Other Finance

Last Updated: 09 Oct 2013

1 Icap 57.2
2 Man Group 54.9
3 Provident Financial 52.3
4 3i 49.5
5 Schroders 49.0

What a difference a year makes. Icap is back on top; Michael Spencer's inter-dealer broker has seen its share price double since March, despite first-half profits slipping 5% and a recent brush with the US stock-market regulator. But it's still a measly 66th overall - a big come-down for a firm that finished sixth in 2007. Last year, Man and 3i both made the overall top 10, but the sector's travails have taken a toll; 3i is down 17 points, after a year in which CEO Philip Yea quit amid concerns over its debt levels (although recent figures suggest it's through the worst). Schroders is down 51 places, but has just enjoyed two successive quarters of fund inflows for the first time in a decade.
