Britain's Most Admired By Sector: Transport

Public transport is booming as consumers feel the pinch: bus and train operator Stagecoach roars ahead, up from 87th to sixth overall.

Last Updated: 09 Oct 2013

1 Stagecoach 68.5
2 National Express 61.5
3 Go-Ahead Group 57.8
4 Arriva 57.6
5 easyJet 57.2

Pre-tax profits are set to reach £192.2m for the year to April 2009, up from £174.4m last time. Rivals are also benefiting from punters' tight travel budgets: revenues at National Express in the nine months to the end of September were 9% up on the same period in 2007 for its rail routes, 7% for buses and 5% for coach services. Go-Ahead Group and Arriva are also doing doughnuts in the downturn. Our airlines had a bumpier ride: easyJet falls from first to fifth in the sector, British Airways from third to ninth.
