Surrey-based house builder Berkeley Group is now worth £3.2 billion on the back of the London housing boom. Ex-Barnados boy Pidgley founded the company in 1976 after working in haulage and for another house builder. He has a reputation for calling the house market right, selling land at the top and buying it back at the bottom of the economic cycle. In the last five years, Berkeley’s sales have risen 164% and employment by 120%.
