Bonhams chairman Robert Brooks started in the auction trade working at Christie's at 17 as a porter. He set up on his own in 1989 backed by a Dutch businessman and bought the 200-year-old Bonhams auction house in 2000 to create Bonham Brooks. A float or stake sale is mooted for the company, which made £21m profit on sales of £127m in 2013.
