Bradford-based academic publisher, Emerald, made a £7.6m profit on £38.4m sales in 2013. The company was started in 1967 when a group of senior academics formed an alternative publishing house that focused on niche management disciplines including strategy, change management, and international marketing. Dr Keith Howard led a management buyout in 1998. Emerald is now a world leader in publishing academic and professional literature for the management, library and engineering sectors.
