The nominations for the 2015 Timewise Power Part-Time List open today, so nominate your favourite part-time role model right now.
What’s a power part-timer, we hear you cry? Well, anyone who is at the top of their profession doing a senior and/or demanding job in less than a full-time working week. Past winners of the accolade have included the likes of Katie Bickerstaffe, CEO of Dixons UK & Ireland at Dixons Carphone, Clare Turnbull, MD at Nomura, Thomasina Miers, co-founder of Wahaca restaurants and Richard Lanyon-Hogg, technical director at IBM.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re an entrepreneur or a corporate type, male or female, young or old, if you are holding down a big job working not-so-big hours Timewise wants to hear from you. (It especially doesn’t matter what your reasons are for wanting to work fewer hours - whether it’s to look after your family, to train for a marathon or simply to have a few quiet hours to read and ponder).
The point of all this is to highlight that these days the idea that you have to work a 90 hour week if you want to get to the top of the tree simply isn’t true anymore. Not only can you do a big job in three or four days a week, more and more people are doing so and doing it well.
What’s more, employers should stop regarding flexible working as a reward for good behaviour and start getting serious about offering it at the hiring stage - because there’s a wealth of talented and ambitious people out there for whom part-time working still means full-time productivity and maximum engagement.
Full disclosure - MT is supporting the Power Part Time List and over the next few weeks, we’ll be showcasing some of the best and brightest of 2014’s list to inspire you, and the final 2015 list of 50 will appear right here at managementtoday.co.uk later this year.
So go on, tell us about your favourite part-time hero today!
