Lost documents and missed appointments only add to the daily stress of working life. Reduce the pressure by being organised.

INVEST in office or desk organisers - even if you don't need a new filing system, it may inspire you to be more organised.

MAKE UNBREAKABLE RULES - eg, checking e-mails only at certain times each day; answering all letters within a week. Limit your rules to three at a time - any more will get broken. Once the rule has become a habit, change it for a new one.

CLEAR YOUR DESK every evening - coming into clutter in the morning is stressful. Seeing an ordered desk helps you feel more in control.

ASK FOR TIPS - if you have an impressively organised colleague, ask them for their secrets. They'll be flattered and only too pleased to divulge some handy hints.
