Athough some anxiety is natural in stressful situations, constant worry impairs performance and prevents rational thought.

KNOW THE SIGNS. List changes in your language, behaviour or health that indicate anxiety, and keep it by you.

REFOCUS YOUR MIND - recall a calming image or past triumph till your breathing regulates and your muscles relax.

CUT OUT STIMULANTS such as caffeine and alcohol till your nervous system is under control again.

TAKE CONSTRUCTIVE ACTION - complete an outstanding but undemanding task before reverting to the main one.

ASK A FRIEND or mentor for two diary dates. The first is for some uncomplicated fun, the second for some time to formulate a long-term strategy to de-stress and rebalance your life.
