The Future is Human: Radical ideas to improve work

Six authors will share their radical ideas to improve work at the Future of Work is Human literary festival on 29th January.

Increasing globalisation, advances in technology, corporate scandals, and political and economic disruptions have all contributed to significant upheavals in the world of work. We have seen the demise of once-great organisations, the shortening shelf-life of careers, an imbalance of opportunities and growing discord.

Navigating this uncertainty requires adaptability, innovation, collaboration, and
principled decision-making - qualities that are uniquely human. Aspart of our Future of Work is Human programme, CIPD (supported by Jericho Chambers) have spent the last three years curating, convening and listening to those who are passionate and fascinated by creating better work and working lives in all its guises.

Now, we’re coming together to celebrate our learnings so far with the Future of Work is Human literary festival. On the 29th January, we are bringing together HR directors and business leaders to discuss and debate the very latest thinking on the Future of Work and the idea that human beings are central to that future.

Emceed by Margaret Heffernan (Author of Wilful Blindness and A Bigger Prize), six authors will share their radical ideas to improve work. We will be tackling everything from the lies told to working parents, how to unlock the power of diversity and making tech work for us, to what we can learn from the economists of the past.

This evening will distil the latest library of innovative thinking for those who never seem to have time to read everything on their list.

As Dan Kieran (pictured), author of The Surfboard, puts it: "If you run a business you’ll know the most important thing is to learn how to get the best out of your staff. Making the working environment a human place to be is crucial if you want to attract the most talented people, and you will need them if you have aggressive growth aspirations."

  • Dan Kieran, CEO of Unbound and author of The Surfboard
