The losses to the UK economy from Russian sanctions could be huge

London's estate agents, headmasters and law firms will be bracing themselves as West-Russia diplomacy over the Ukraine crisis grinds to a halt.

Russians are big-spenders in the UK – they send their kids to school here, buy up central London properties, float their companies and back stab each other in our courts – so the potential losses to the UK economy if Western governments whack sanctions on Russia are pretty huge. Given that Sunday’s decidedly dodgy referendum in Crimea on whether to join the motherland is looking unstoppable, estate agents, private schools and lawyers alike could soon be tightening their belts.
