How to be lucky, with YouTube

Generate good fortune on Friday 13th, with Seinfeld, the Hitchhikers Guide, and Crocodile Dundee.

Break the routine. If you're always feeling like the victim, then take responsibility for what happens to you and do something about it. When Seinfeld's George Costanza realises his life is the exact opposite of what he always wanted, he vows to make radical changes, starting with what he orders for lunch. The results are instantly spectacular.

Keep your glass full. Luck favours optimists. If something bad happens, suspend your reaction. Try viewing it as a good thing and see where it leads. As Marvin, the Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy's paranoid android shows, moaning doesn't get you anywhere.

Take risks. Think of yourself when you're older - won't you regret the risks you didn't take? Trust your instincts on that one - as journalist Sue Charlton does at the end of Crocodile Dundee. She may look a bit of an idiot now, but it's worth it in the end. Apologies for the Valentine's Day schmaltz.
