Mitt Romney dismisses 'government dependent' Obama voters

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney could be in the firing line yet again after a secret recording appears to show him dismissing 47% of poor Americans in a speech.

In the speech, which was given at a fund raising dinner, Romney reportedly said: ‘There are 47% of the people who will vote for [Obama] no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that the government has a responsibility to care for them.

‘My job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.’ Charming stuff.

For the Democrats, who have taken a fondness to depicting Romney as a cold-hearted capitalist who is out of touch with the majority of people, the recording could be a boon. After all, even if Romney is simply stating fact (he is a Republican after all), the tone is perhaps a bit too steely…
