It’s been another impressive year for nominations and the final 35 women who feature on our 2010 ’35 Women Under 35’ list, in association with Randstad, are doing UK business proud. The women come from every sector of commercial life, from advertising and banking to music and property. Strongly represented are the creative industries, with 12 women out of 37 (there are two joint-entries) on the list. Entrepreneurs also feature heavily (16 on the list), as does financial services.
The celebrations began yesterday evening at the Haymarket Hotel in central London, with a coup of a speaker – Martha Lane Fox, the internet entrepreneur and government Digital Champion, who also appeared on MT’s inaugural ’35 Women Under 35’ list back in 2001. She spoke of the necessity of being bold in business and of the need to be confident in your own abilities. She cited the German philosopher Goethe as an inspiration: ‘Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.’
Some of the women present included Alison Bishop, VP of JP Morgan’s private bank; Tamara Rajah from McKinsey & Co; Isabel Garvey from Warner Music International; Lucy Carver from BSkyB; Kristy Goodger from Elemental Herbology; and Rain Newton-Smith from Oxford Economics.
