No 12: Hiscox
The underwriter has benefited from a boom in cyber insurance.

A place in the top 12 for influential underwriter Hiscox, which estimates that Hurricanes Harvey and Irma will cost it about £170m in payouts. CEO Bronek Masojada says that premiums will be rising next year and not only in markets such as catastrophe insurance, which are affected directly by the storms. On the bright side – if you are an insurer – the explosion in computer hacking has led to a boom in cyber insurance, and Hiscox has just hired ex-GCHQ boss Robert Hannigan as an adviser on this highly lucrative new market.
