Trebles all round for Guinness to Johnnie Walker big booze beast Diageo, back in the top 12 for the first time since winning in 2013. Boss Ivan Menezes has had his work cut out integrating the acquisitions made before he took over four years ago, most notably the troubled £1.2bn United Spirits deal. But his drive for discipline is paying off – net sales hit £12bn in 2016/17, on the back of which the board has approved a £1.5bn share buyback for 2018. It’s also buying again, having paid $700m for George Clooney’s Casamigos tequila brand.
