The number of black cabs that will be shipped to Azerbaijan by manufacturer Manganese Bronze - the largest order in its history.

While most of us would agree that the natural habitat of the much-loved Hackney carriage is, well, Hackney, the humble black cab is about to make a trip further afield. Manganese Bronze, the company that manufactures the vehicles, said today that it's just received the largest order in its history - from Azerbaijan.

The order, for 1,000 shiny new cabs, is worth £17m, and will be fulfilled by Manganese and its Chinese partner Geely Automobile. But it's not just the streets of Baku (thanks, Wikipedia) the taxis will be gracing - apparently, orders have come from the likes of France, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Anyone know the Arabic for 'just pull up here on the right'?
