With the nation’s youth almost permanently glued to computer screens, it might come as a surprise to hear that traditional toys are still holding up. But Lego says its profits have risen by 25% in the first half of the year as the toy giant’s new Ninjago toys and mini figurines proved a hit in playgrounds. 

Lego’s UK managing director said parents are turning towards trusted brands during the downturn, as they want something that will last. This meant profits surged from £175m to £241m in the six months to July. That’s one company that isn’t facing a stumbling block, despite the tough economic climate. Boom, boom…
