The sandwich chain, a privately-owned company, said it overtook the golden arches at some point in 2010, as it spread even further across Asia and opened its first shop in Vietnam. The sandwich chain now has 33,749 outlets worldwide - 1,000 more than McDonalds.
McDonalds has come back with an argument slapped between two halves of a sesame-seed bap: saying that it's quality, not quantity, that counts.
