LinkedIn, the social networking site for professionals, is the latest high-profile company to join the surge of initial public offerings set to take place across the pond next week. 

Twelve companies are expected to make their stock market debut in the US within the next two weeks, half of which will be tech firms. 

LinkedIn, which has more than 100m members in over 200 countries, will be one of the first major social networking sites to go public. And, if the example of another tech IPO is anything to go by, the timing should be just right: Renren, a big social media site in China, debuted on the New York Stock Exchange last week, raising $740m in its first day. Although, thinking back to the events of the early 2000s, it might be worth exercising caution…
