Bad habits are our own worst enemy when it comes to stress. Whether it's saying yes too often or being habitually late or disorganised, the rules for breaking these habits are the same.

BATTLE WITH JUST ONE AT A TIME. Don't pile on stress by trying to turn over too many new leaves at once.

BECOME OBSESSIVE. You need to overdo the new behaviour at first while trying to change a habit.

FOCUS ON THE BENEFITS of adopting good habits. Reminding yourself of the badness of old habits is ineffective.

COMMIT YOUR GOOD INTENTION TO PAPER with realistic start and target dates.

Glance at it regularly.

BE GENEROUS WITH REWARDS for success - extra treats are vital morale boosts.
