Genie from BT is have-fun-with-your-mobile-phone meets the wonderful world of the internet. And, to be fair, the site really does have some pretty cool stuff. Alongside the usual sports, business and entertainment news is its terrifically useful mobile section. Sign up for an account with the site (free) and you can send those nifty little text messages (SMS) to any SMS-compatible mobile phones from your PC (also free). Anyone who has typed a message longer than 'Meet me at six' using the numbers on their phone keypad will appreciate how handy this is. What's more, when you sign up, you get an e-mail address (myname@sms.genie.co.uk) that friends and colleagues can use to send e-mail to your mobile - also gratis.

Sounds brilliant, doesn't it? Well, it's not actually that. It's merely very good. It would be brilliant if the techno-geeks at BT had redesigned this sluggish site to deliver the performance that today's surfers expect
