Just about anyone can trade shares online, but for the private investor worthwhile intelligence is hard to find. Enter Raw Communications, a company that brings top-level corporate presentations and analysts' briefings - usually witnessed by a select handful - to a wider audience via video over the internet.

Originally aimed at professional investors, the service now has a pared-down free offering at rawinvestor.com. Registered users can access a video archive of selected hot business events, from merger announcements and AGMs to presentations, alongside business and financial news.

As well as the bald facts, the videos show the vital intangible indicators.

Was the atmosphere hostile? Was the board united? How does the CEO react under pressure?

Picture quality over the net isn't great, but this is a start, and a more comprehensive paid-for private investor service is on its way.
