TECHKNOW: Smart tools - The Teleadapt SIM back up - What is it?

Last Updated: 31 Aug 2010

What is it?

Disaster recovery for your mobile phone.

What does it do?

It copies the names and numbers on your mobile's SIM (subscriber identity module) card into its own memory. Just take the card out of your phone, pop it into the SIM Back Up's slot and press the button to save up to 250 vital contacts. If you don't know why that makes this little gadget A Very Good Thing you've clearly never left your phone in a taxi or put it through the washing machine. In the event of these or other calamities, the Back Up saves your bacon by transferring saved numbers onto the SIM card of your new mobile.

What's the competition?

Teleadapt has found a good niche here. Drawbacks? It handles only one SIM, so multiple phone owners will need a Back Up for each (and regular brain scans in case the scare stories come true). And if you let the batteries run out, your data will be lost - they last about 12 months.

Where can I get it?

From Teleadapt, at pounds 21.27.
