Control Techniques, the British process and motion control specialist, has just achieved a first with its new annual report published in European Currency Units (ECUs).

Finance director Mike Robins came up with the idea as a way of expressing the company's commitment to its European customers. Continental sales of some ECU 66 million represent over 80% of Control Techniques' ECU 79 million turnover. Thankfully, however, Robins has also produced a sterling version for those who require translation: turnover of £56 million, of which £47 million comes from the European Community.

Some of us may be slow to grasp the intricacies of the ECU, but at Control Techniques the penny has clearly been dropped.
