Technology can be harnessed to make companies greener. Hotel group Forte saved £180,000 in 1993 by installing combined heat and power (CHP) systems in 60 hotels. CHP taps waste heat normally associated with electricity generation to heat water and buildings.'Having installed small-scale combined heat and power in more than 70 of its establishments Forte is happy that CHP has a role to play, provided that the heat and hot water load justifies on-site power generation,' says Forte's environmental services director, John Forte.
