Now Toady is as green as anyone but things can be taken too far. From our Hampshire agent comes news of further verdant excess from computer giant IBM. Some time ago, you may recall, IBM offered to recycle the computers of its more ecologically-overwrought customers. Now the firm aims to trump its own ace by recycling an entire software division. A nine-storey, 120-ft office block in downtown Hursley will be demolished and the resultant detritus - 100 tons of glass, 210 tons of metal and 1,200 tons of concrete - will be 90% re-used. Nonetheless, the company responsible for the plan (Procord, formed by an MBO at IBM's own property management division) professes itself dissatisfied at the unrecycled 10%: "Perhaps we should start building partitions in expensive metal rather than unrecycleable plasterboard," agonises MD John Jack.
