Brussels bureaucrats will groan at mention of Andrew Cook. The chairman of Sheffield castings group William Cook has spent two years campaigning against heavily subsidised competitors from Europe which drive a coach and horses through any notion of fair trading. Spanish and Portugese groups with prices 20% below cost particularly enrage the Sheffield steelman.
A year ago he presented his findings to the European Commission - they were met with a deafening silence.
But, far from giving up, the intrepid Cook has spent some £100,000 producing a video called "Bridging the Gap", which aims to persuade both the Government and the Commission to act. Sadly, it will probably take an army of grievances to stir any stumps in Brussels, so if you have any further examples please let us know.
