The Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE) is an international association 'with more than 2,200 members in 70 countries devoted exclusively to the pursuit of excellence in incentive travel'. It also possesses an unenviable sense of timing.
Earlier this year, SITE proudly announced it had established a branch in Egypt, where 'tourism has represented the fastest-growing sector of the Egyptian economy during the past five years'. What SITE fails to mention is that tourism is now the fastest-shrinking sector. All thanks to some clever disincentives from Islamic militants, including calling on all foreigners to leave the country because, 'the coming operations, God willing, will be extremely violent'.
