A solicitor with standards? Some might say that it is a contradiction in terms. But never again, if Manchester-based Pannone Blackburn has its way. Nearly 10,000 companies have secured BS5750 registration in the 10 years since the Quality Assurance standard was introduced. However, Pannone Blackburn is the first legal practice to apply for certification.

Finance director Andrew Simpkin explains that many of the firm's corporate clients were already flying the kitemark and, impressed by the management procedures which the British Standards Institute laid down, he decided to join them. Now he has been recruited, in conjunction with the BSI, to help The Law Society to draft a new code of practice.
