City folk who have been horrified by the news that Companies House, their repository of company records, is moving to somewhere called Cardiff need not fret.
Much of the service that used to be provided via microfiche and couriers is available online removing the need to leave the Square Mile.
Corporate cyber searchers can access the basics - that is, the register of all UK companies (live and dissolved), and the list of disqualified directors - for free. Those who want company records will have to open an account. They will then be able to download company records from the internet.
If you require the yet-to-be-digitised records from before 1995 you will have to rely on more archaic means, although there are plans to make these available electronically soon.
