'The Bank of England is greatly overburdened and too powerful in this proposed construction, especially the governor and two deputy governors' - Former Bank of England official Willem Buiter tells a Treasury select committee that giving more financial responsibility to the Bank would be a mistake. The committee is currently looking into giving the Bank oversight of credit and systemic risk and regulation of individual banks.
